The Journey to Web3

In order to understand the true mission of Web 3.0, we must first explore the purpose & evolution of the Webs of the past, that helped lead us to where we are today.

WEB 1.0 (1991-2004):

The internet was created as a network of interconnected computers to share information.

The first web page was created in 1991 by Tim Berners-Lee.

The focus was on the creation of static web pages and simple HTML coding.

Users could only read and browse the web; there was no way to interact with websites or contribute content.

The web was mainly used for information sharing, such as online catalogs and news websites.

WEB 2.0 (2004-2014):

Web 2.0 brought about the rise of social media, online communities, and user-generated content.

Users could now interact with websites and with each other through features like commenting, sharing, and liking.

Websites became more dynamic and interactive, with the use of JavaScript, AJAX, and other web development technologies.

Web 2.0 enabled the creation of new types of online businesses such as social media platforms, e-commerce sites, and online marketplaces.

Web 2.0 also brought about new technologies like mobile apps and cloud computing, which enabled more convenient and flexible access to the web.

WEB 3.0 (2014-present):

Web 3.0 aims to create a more decentralized and secure web.

It builds on the principles of Web 2.0 but adds new technologies like blockchain, decentralized storage, and smart contracts to enable more secure and private transactions.

Web3 aims to give users more control over their data and digital identity and to enable decentralized applications (dApps) that are not controlled by any central authority.

Web 3.0 also aims to address issues related to online privacy and security, such as data breaches and online censorship.

Web 3.0 is still in its early stages of development, but new applications and platforms are being built on top of decentralized technologies.

In summary, Web 1.0 was a static, one-way web for reading and browsing, Web 2.0 is a social, two-way web for interacting and sharing, and Web 3.0 is a decentralized, three-way web for secure and private transactions.

The timeline for these developments is roughly from 1991 to 2004 for Web1, from 2004 to 2014 for Web2, and from 2014 to the present for Web3.
